Got to thinking about Halloween and the usual suspects who haunt our nightmares. If I could, what monster would I be?
Zombie: Walking around hollow eyed and half-dead? Nah. Been there, done that, after a marathon night of editing with a looming deadline. And shedding body parts? At my age, I don’t have parts I can afford to lose…well, rethinking here, there are a few parts I’d love to lose. Need I say more?
Witch: Yeah, maybe. But only if I could wear a designer robe and travel via Jetstar.
Then we have the ever popular werewolf. But all that fur. Can you imagine trying to shave your legs for a Saturday night date?
Well, how’s about a nice vampire: Sexy, young and beautiful forever. Sounds great, but that business about drinking blood? Yuck. Is there a vampire sub-culture that lives on pizza and beer? If so, yeah, count me in.
And last, but not least, would I like to be a ghost, flitting about in darkened corners, striking fear into the hearts of all? Hmmm…isn’t that what IRS agents do?
Guess I’m stuck with being what I am…a romance writer crouched over her computer, communing with my own private ghost, the handsome, devil-may-care (and, alas, very dead) Lefty Lefkowitz. Meet Lefty as he spooks his way through the pages of That Ol’ Team Spirit, in the newly published anthology, Take Me Out.
And if hauntings aren’t your cup of tea, check out the other three stories, written by Ellie Arden, Alicia Arden Pace and Leslie Garcia.
