A: There needs to be enough to keep the reader interested, since they’re looking for the emotional AND physical connection between characters… and there needs to be a good lead-up. We want the reader to be begging for release before we give them their “happy ending” but you don’t want to overdo it and have the reader bored with the sex before it gets good. A good rule is to look at how the sex affects the relationship. If you’re writing romance, and not just porno, all the sex has to be meaningful and advance/alter the dynamics of the story somehow, or heighten the stakes in the relationship.
